Frederick “Buddy” Sheridan Jr., 73, of Shelton, retired driver from Pace Motor Lines, worked at Bridgeport Hospital, Bridgeport Brass and Ross & Roberts, husband of Sally Pignataro Sheridan, died Sept. 11, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Bridgeport on Oct. 8, 1942, son of the late Frederick and Celeste Sheridan.

Also survived by son, Eric (Corinne), two grandchildren, sister, Patricia Siksay (Robert), brother, Robert (Dolores) and several nephews.  

Visiting hours: Monday, Sept. 19, 4-7 p.m., Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Graveside committal services: Tuesday, 11 a.m., section 11 in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford.

Elizabeth “Betty” Mooney, 88, of Stratford, worked for House of Spirits Package Store, wife of the late James J. Mooney, died Sept. 15, at home.

Born on May 23, 1928 in Stratford, daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Negrelli Macisco.  Also predeceased by brothers, Anthony and Frederick Macisco and sister, Dorothy Kerekes.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Mooney and his wife, Pat of Oxford and Kevin Mooney of Shelton, siblings, Albert Macisco and his wife, Laurie of Trumbull, James Macisco and Joan, Raymond Macisco and his wife, Lorraine and Violet Royer, all of Florida and Louise Provenzano of Stratford, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Services: Wednesday, Sept. 21, 9:30 a.m., Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Visiting hours: Tuesday, 4-8 p.m.

Mildred Hazelo, 102, of Shelton, retired bookkeeper from the Fairfield Uniform Store, wife of the late Claude A. Hazelo, died Sept. 15.

Born in Bridgeport on May 4, 1914, daughter of the late Agnes Hanson and Gustave Kunkel.  Survived by daughter, Janet Cody and her husband, William, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Also predeceased by her son, Chief Petty Officer Robert Hazelo, U.S. Navy.

Robin Sue Santoianni of the Bronx, N.Y., mother of Christopher Santoianni of Shelton, unexpectedly died Saturday, Sept. 17, at Jacobi Medical Center, in the Bronx. She was 60 years old.

Born Jan. 28, 1956, she was the daughter of Silvia Ochs of the Bronx and the late Melvin Ochs.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two brothers, David Ochs of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Howard Ochs of Long Island; her son Christopher Santoianni of Shelton; four grandchildren: Jonathan Morales, Nicolette Santoianni, Ava Santoianni and Jack Santoianni; and nieces and nephews David Ochs, Nicole Compton, Tyler Ochs and James Ochs.

Born in Boston on May 24, 1926, daughter of the late Hilary and Catherine (MacIsaac) Petrie.

Survived by children, Mary Lee Smyth (Randall), Dr. Lisa A. Carroll, Lt. Col Charles D. Carroll (Shawney), and Amy T. Carroll-Benabid (Assaad), six grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

Robert N. Saraco Sr., 72, of Shelton, repair technician for Sikorsky Aircraft, husband of Catherine Rigoli Saraco, died Sept. 29, at home.

Born in Bridgeport, on Nov. 3, 1943, son of the late Anthony and Maria Zanella Saraco; U.S. Army veteran.

Besides his wife, survivors include his children grandchildren, Anthony Saraco and his wife, Amy and their children, Robert, Anthony Jr., and Isabella, all of East Haddam, Robert N. Saraco Jr. and his children, Nicholas and Lukas, all of Monroe, and Jessica Grassia and her husband, Richard and their children, Payton and Hailey, all of Trumbull; two sisters, Grace Sette of Stonington and Diane Kiely and her husband, Thomas of Shelton; in-laws, Maria Rigoli, wife of the late Ralph Rigoli, Tita Sanzo and her husband John, John Rigoli and his wife Hilda, Theresa Camera, Vincent Rigoli and his wife Charlene, Rocco Rigoli and his wife Maria, and Paul Rigoli, and several nieces and nephews.

Born Dec. 16, 1923, in Bridgeport, son of Francis and Ethel Haviland Reh.

Predeceased by daughter, Dawn Marie Fleming and brothers, Francis and Donald H. Reh; World War II veteran.

Joan Susan Harter, 83, of Milford, formerly of Shelton and Trumbull, office manager at several doctor’s offices in Westport, wife of Paul Harter, died Sept. 30, in St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Born in Bridgeport to the late Ignatius and Susan (Vislocky) Varay.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Ruth Harter of Stratford, a brother, James and his wife, Diana Varay of Huntington and several nieces and nephews.

Jonathan S. Sabo Jr., age 15, of Shelton, died Sept. 29.

The beloved son of Jonathan S. Sabo Sr. and Nancy DiCaro Thomson, he was born in Bridgeport, Feb. 16, 2001 and was a lifelong Shelton resident.

Jonathan was a student in his sophomore year at Shelton High School where he was a member of the Shelton High School Marching Band. Jonathan enjoyed working for Fairview Tree Farm in Shelton.

He was an avid New Orleans Saints fan and liked fishing, archery, trap shooting, and playing his drums.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Jack Sabo of Shelton; maternal grandparents, Sal DiCaro Sr. of North Springfield, Vt., and Eileen DiCaro of Shelton; paternal grandparents, Lee Sabo of Oxford, and Maureen Sabo of Shelton; his aunt, Laura Motes and her husband, Andy and their daughter, his cousin, Lela of Barkhamsted; his uncle, Sal DiCaro Jr. of Newport Richey, Fla.; and his godmother, Sheila Millo of Newtown.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Ave., Shelton. Burial will be private

Joan deStefano Julian, 77, of Huntington, died Oct. 4, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford.

Born in Bridgeport on Jan. 25, 1939, daughter of the late John and Vera Salerno deStefano.  

Survivors include three daughters, Jayna Lively and her husband, Jim of Trumbull, Leslie Julian and her boyfriend, David Card of Huntington and Marcie Julian Branca and her husband, Jeff of Shelton, her brother, John deStefano Jr. and his wife, Florence of Florida, six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Also predeceased by two sisters, Mary Lou Mentana and June Petite.

Jill Eckert (McCormack)

Jill Eckert (McCormack), age 58, died peacefully on Oct. 2, at her home in Milford, after a long illness.

Jill is survived by her husband, Kevin Eckert of Milford; her daughters, Katie (Larry) Doran of Shelton and Ashley Eckert of Shelton; her two grandsons, Christopher Barrett and Zachary Doran of Shelton, and her brother, James McCormack and sister-in-law, Debora McCormack of Milford.

She was predeceased by her parents, Richard McCormack and Dolores McCormack, and her brother, Timothy McCormack

Jill was born on March 7, 1958 in Bridgeport, CT and grew up in Milford. She graduated from Milford High School in 1976 and remained in Milford where she married and raised her children.  Jill was a kind-hearted free spirit who loved spending time at the beach and doting on her dog, Max.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.

Born in Shelton on Aug. 17, 1920, daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Sedlock Majoros.

Survived by a son, Donald J. Castaldi and his wife, Deborah of Shelton, a daughter, Elaine M. Parkins of Palm Bay, Fla., two grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, five great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Also predeceased by a granddaughter, Kelly Castaldi, a son-in-law, Frederick M. Parkins, brothers, John and Mickey Majoros and sisters, Mary Cigas and Irene Ruzinkovic.

Services: Saturday, Oct. 8, 10:30 a.m., St. Joseph’s Church in Shelton. Burial follows in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Visiting hours: Saturday, 8:30 am until the procession leaves for church at the Spinelli-Ricciuti/Bednar-Osiecki Funeral Home, 62 Beaver Street, Ansonia.

Stuart Marshall Henley, 84, of Shelton, husband of the late Beverly June Banks Henley, died Oct. 7, at home.

Born in Bridgeport on Sept. 15, 1932, son of the late Harry B. Henley, Sr. and Julia Kozenieski Henley; U.S. Air Force, Korean War.

Survived by children, Deidra Kopec and her husband, Richard, three grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Also predeceased by his brother, Harry B. Henley Jr., brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry Banks, William and Evelyn Banks, Donald and Shirley Banks, and Dorothy Bove, and stepmother, Helen Darak Henley.

Obituary: John A. Wittig of Shelton

John A. Wittig of Shelton, died Tuesday Oct. 11 at Einstein Medical Center, Montgomery, PA following an illness. His wife was the former Mary Fulton who died in 1995.

Born in Waymart, PA, John was the son of the late LeRoy and Mary Elizabeth Enslin Wittig. He was a hard working man dedicated to his family and friends. He spent much of his time during his youth working on the family farm. He had worked in communications for the local telephone company after serving in the Korean War for the U.S. Army. Upon marrying Mary Fulton they moved to Shelton, where John worked at Avco Lycoming Engine Plant until retirement.

John was a beloved father and grandfather who enjoyed hunting, gardening, and working on his farm during retirement.

He is survived by his son John and his wife Mary Ellen of Harleysville, PA; grandchildren Matthew, Melissa, and Kathryn; a sister Blanche Kobeski of New Jersey; several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by brothers Walter and Martin Wittig; sisters Dora Ryan and Lorraine Lee.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 12 noon in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment, East Canaan Cemetery, S. Canaan, PA.

Madeline Ligouri Soules, 93, a longtime Monroe resident and the beloved wife of the late George Soules, entered into heaven peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in her residence. She was born in Bridgeport, Jan. 11, 1923 , daughter of the late James and Catherine (Anello) Ligouri. Madeline was a devout communicant of St. Jude R.C. Church in Monroe. She and her late husband George were lifetime members of the Monroe Volunteer Fire Dept. Madeline loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all and will remain forever in our hearts. Madeline’s family includes her devoted children daughter Sandra (Wayne) Watt of Oxford , two sons George (Brenda) Soules of N.C. and Gary Soules of Monroe, her caring brothers Armando (Martha) Ligour of FL., John Ligouri of Shelton and Raymond (Joan) Ligouri of Monroe, a loving sister Virginia(Andrew) Lauro of Stratford, her seven adoring grandchildren and six cherished great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers James, Anthony, George, Louis, Thomas and Joseph Ligouri and two sisters Jean Bockiaro and Rose Schettino .

A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Madeline’s life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. directly at St. Jude R.C. Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
